On the eve of an anticipated massive gathering of protesters in central Cairo demanding the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian Army announced it would not use violence against demonstrators.
The statement by the Army also said that it recognizes the legitimacy of the Egyptian people's demands.
In what appeared to be a reaction to the call for escalated protests, a military spokesman appeared on state TV and warned against "any act that destabilizes security of the country."
